PANATHINAIKOS brings Gist aboard in trade
James Gist joins Panathinaikos for Top 16Forward James Gist, a regular on Turkish Airlines Euroleague highlights, has joined Panathinaikos Athens in an exchange of players whose teams will face each other in the upcoming Top 16. Gist (2.06 meters, 26 years old) arrives to Panathinaikos from Unicaja Malaga, while forward Andy Panko heads in the opposite direction to Spain. Gist averaged 8.6 points and 4.8 rebounds in 10 regular season games in helping Unicaja finish second in its regular season group. Panathinaikos becomes his fourth Euroleague team since he debuted in the competition in 2010. His first season, with Partizan Belgrade, was Gist's most productive. He put up 11.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1 block per game as Partizan reached the Top 16. Last season, Gist made it back to the Top 16 with Fenerbahce Ulker, for whom he averaged 7.4 points and 4.5 rebounds as a full-time starter. This season, Gist had mostly come off the bench for Unicaja, but continued to thrill crowds with his dunks and blocks, being chosen for the weekly top plays on several occasions. His Unicaja will be able to see Gist again when Panathinaikos visits Malaga for a Top 16 clash on March 8.
