Olimpija: Dzikic replaces Becirovic as coach
Aleksandar Dzikic, Union Olimpija Memi Becirovic - Union Olimpija Union Olimpija completed a head coaching switch over the weekend with the announcement that Aleksandar Dzikic, last with Minnesota of the NBA as an assistant, would replace Memi Becirovic, who had resigned on Saturday. Dzikic was a long-time assistant coach at Partizan Belgrade before working for Minnesota between 2005 and now. He was the first European coach with no prior experience in America to be hired by an NBA team. Dzikic is expected to be on Olimpija's bench for its next Euroleague home game, against Zalgiris Kaunas on Thursday. Becirovic, the father of Euroleague champion Sani Becirovic of Panathinaikos, was hired last summer and resigned Saturday over a disagreement with sports director Janez Rajgelj regarding the arrival of new players. Becirovic led Olimpija to a 9-7 record in the Adriatic League. The team is currently 3-7 in Euroleague regular season Group A, but followed early home wins against Olympiacos and CSKA Moscow by losing six of its next seven games. Dzikic had worked with Partizan since 1991 except for between 1997 and 1999, when he was head coach of Beovuk in Belgrade.
