ULEB Cup draw profile: Hemofarm Stada
|
BC Hemofarm Stada booked its spot in the Final 32 by finishing third place with a 6-4 record in a tough Group C which also featured Akasvayu Girona and Galatasaray. Head coach Miroslav Nikolic's Serbian team started the season with a tight home win over Spirou Charleroi but then was beaten convincingly at Girona, where Hemofarm shot just 28% from the floor. Shooting guard Rawle Marshall made his ULEB Cup debut with the team in Week 3 and the club won comfortably at home over Asesoft and then Hanzevast Capitals. The Serb team followed that with a loss by 15 points at Galatasaray before beating Spirou again on the road. Marshall scored 29 points to lead Hemofarm to a 4-point victory at home over Girona to improve its record to 5-2. And a strong road victory at Asesoft made it 6-2. But with chances alive for first place, Hemofarm stumbled at Hanzevast as the team turned the ball over 18 times and allowed Capitals to shooting 52% for the game. And in Week 10, with second place up for grabs for the winner, Nikolic's troops faltered again with a 7-point loss at home against Galatasaray. Hemofarm was without third-leading scorer Goran Jagodnik and forced just 9 Galatasaray turnovers while shooting just 46% from the field. Marshall was the clear leader of the team all season with 16.1 points per game. Center Vladan Vukosavljevic averaged 14.0 points and a team-high 5.5 rebounds. Small forward forward Jagodnik scored 13.4 points and playmaker Nebojsa Joksimovic collected 11.8 points and team highs of 2.8 assists and 1.4 steals. And 22-year-old center Milivoje Bozovic proved an excellent help off the bench with 5.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in just 15 minutes of action. Nikolic needs to re-focus his team as it aims to return to the semifinals - just like it did in 2004-05 and 2005-06. See Team Page
POST-DRAW REACTIONS | BC Hemofarm Stada head coach, Miroslav Nikolic:"In general terms, I am happy with our draw, especially because we don't have to make a long trip to face Buducnost. On the other hand, both teams have faced each other several times and know each other very well. Buducnost has the home court advantage but I believe we have chances to reach the next round. It will be special for me, because I will be back to Podgorica to face Buducnost, the team I coached for several years and which I led to get good results." |
