ULEB Cup Draw profile: Red Star
Red Star A ULEB Cup signature team returns to the elimination rounds ready to make some noise and fight hard to reach the ULEB Cup Final Right. Red Star had an up-and-down season so far but managed to reach the Last 32 round as the third-ranked team in difficult Group D behind its two superstars, playmaker Omar Cook and power forward Tadija Dragicevic. Red Star opened the season with a 87-94 overtime road win against Nymburk behind 28 points from Dragicevic and 21 from Cook. Red Star kept its momentum going with a 79-69 home win against Panellinios with 22 points from an unstoppable Dragicevic. The team dropped to 2-1 due to a 97-76 road loss against Dynamo Moscow, but quickly recovered with a very convincing 99-66 home win against Beghelli Bologna. Dragicevic led 6 Red Star players in double digits with 21 points on 4-for-5 three-pointers. Red Star improved to 4-1 and got closer to reach the elimination rounds with a 72-73 road win against Telindus Oostende on a buzzer-beating three-pointer by the ever-present Dragicevic. Steven Markovic led Red Star in Oostende with 20 points. Red Star Tadija Dragicevic - Red Starhit rock-bottom with a 74-96 home loss against Nymburk but bounced back with a 81-83 road win against Panellinios. Cook had 23 points and 9 assists, as well as game-winning free throws with 4 seconds to go. Red Star registered two more home losses, 98-104 against Dynamo Moscow and 86-100 in the final regular season game against Oostende, but a narrow 76-77 overtime road win against Beghelli had already qualified the team to the elimination rounds. Miroslav Raicevic dunked with 3 seconds left to send the game to go to force overtime while Dragicevic hit the game-winning free throw. Red Star has been deadly away from Belgrade, winning 4 of its 5 road games so far. On the other hand, Red Star has registered three consecutive home losses. Cook ranks 5th and Dragicevic 13th in three-pointers made. If Red Star regains consistency at home, backed by largr crowds now, the inspiration of its dynamic duo could make the team go very deep in the competition.

POST-DRAW REACTIONS

Stevan Karadzic, head coach Red Star:"We will play a team with a big and famous name in European basketball. Benetton was a group winner, and played very good in the ULEB Cup. It is going to be great chance and a great experience for our young team. We will try to copy the good games we played this season in the ULEB Cup, make a good effort, give our best, and represent the club in the best possible way."

Red Star general manager, Andrija Kleut::"I think that Benetton Tamoil Treviso is a very attractive opponent and I hope it will be a nice elimination round. We played our first game in Belgrade and I know it won't be an easy round for any of the teams. I hope it will be a great show, too, because every game is important in the ULEB Cup elimination rounds. It is easier for us to play outside of Belgrade, as we won four ULEB Cup games on the road already. I hope we can continue that tradition and break the other end, since we lost three consecutive home games in the competition. More fans will come to the arena and I hope this will help us. If we are backed by a full Pionir Arena, that will be a great support."
