Maccabi's Fizer ready to return
|
Maccabi Electra could see the return of big man Marcus Fizer almost a year after a knee injury kept him from the team's run to the title game at the 2008 Final Four. Fizer (203, 30) has played in three friendly games over the holidays and is registered to see action when Maccabi hosts Olympiacos in Group A on Thursday. Fizer was averaging 11.5 points in just 17 minutes through 15 games last season, his first in the Euroleague, when he went down with knee injury during the Top 16 opener against Olympiacos in Piraeus. He underwent successful meniscus surgery soon after. Last fall, after an agreement with the club to monitor his condition, Fizer returned to Israel to continue his rehabilitation with the team's medical staff. Fizer has been working since then with Maccabi physiotherapist Rafi Virshuvski to build strength in the knee. After two exhibition games in Germany in which he scored 4 points each against Frankfurt Skyliners, he had 16 points and 5 rebounds in another friendly with Hapoel Galil Eylon in Israel on Sunday.
