Unicaja extends Carlos Jimenez

Unicaja and veteran forward Carlos Jimenez will be together for at least one more season after reaching a contract agreement on Thursday. The team will retain an option to extend the deal through the 2010-11 season, too. Jimenez (203, 33) just finished his third season with Unicaja, which he helped bring to the 2007 Euroleague Final Four, as well as to Spanish League semifinals each of the last two years. He averaged 5.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in 16 Euroleague games this season. Jimenez has also played for Estudiantes in Spain and has captained the Spanish national team throughout its recent golden era. Now retired from the national team, Jimenez helped Spain win the gold medal at the 2006 World Championships in Japan and the silver at the 2008 Olympic Games in China. He has also helped Spain to win three EuroBasket medals, silver in 2003 and 2007, bronze in 2001. Jimenez also won a Spanish King's Cup title with Estudiantes in 2000. "It has been easy for both parts, because I feel very comfortable in the club and in this city," Jimenez said after signing his new contract. "The club also wanted me to continue, so everything went smoothly and I am very satisfied."
