Interview with Aito Garcia Reneses
|
The Mastermind Coaching Seminars offer 5 coaches with more than 70 European and national championships combined and endless years of experience at the highest competitive level. What else do you think it offers?
Another very interesting aspect is the opportunity to share the experience with coaches from different locations in order to discuss the seminars with them, bringing a different point of view to the table.
What special emphasis do you think differentiates your particular Mastermind Coaching Seminar from the others?
I would emphasise the biggest difference that this project has when compared to others – that students are being brought together from all over the world and the cast of professors.
Ettore Messina, Aito Garcia Reneses, Zelimir Obradovic, Xavi Pascual and Sergio Scariolo - rivals on the court yet collaborators in this initiative. What could the “elders” learn from the “youngster” and vice versa?
Both the youngest and the eldest learn from the wisdom of others.
If you were a student for your own seminar, which individual lesson would you be most interested in reading?
I would be most interested in learning about the experiences of the professors as real as possible – not theoretical – for which it is convenient to know the players that each professor has on his team in depth.
Which specific aspect of coaching (if any) would you most like to be remembered by after you have retired from coaching?
I would leave this up to the observer. I would like them to pay close attention, and not base themselves on what they have heard. If this were the case I would be very happy with their choice even if it were not a positive aspect.
Since students are known for open minded communication and always questioning everything, could you please describe the difference between your relationship with students on this seminar and your players?
The fundamental difference is in being together for a few days or during an entire year. In some cases the difference is in having more or less interest.
What is it about the basketball that is currently being played in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague that you would most like to transmit to fellow coaches around the world?
That they can differentiate what they can do with their team, taking into consideration the level at which the team plays. Not everything is possible, nor should it be attempted in any given team.
