It was clear during the first week of the Quarterfinal Playoffs that defenses are tougher than ever and getting comfortable shots is far from easy. That didn't stop some players from putting up great performances, however, and interestingly, the top ones are from series that continue to do-or-die third games next week. Topping the list with a combined index rating of 46 through Game 1 and Game 2 of the quarterfinals was Vasilis Spanoulis of Panathinaikos. In his team's series against Tau Ceramica, Spanoulis is averaging 16.5 points, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals while hitting almost 70% two-point of his shots. Next, with a two-game rating of 43, was Shammond Williams of Winterthur FCB, who has put up 24.5 points per game on 80% two-point shooting and dished 4.5 assists on average also. Luis Scola of Tau Ceramica ranks third for the week (42) while leading all players with 20 points per game. His teammate, Tiago Splitter , tied for the fourth-best performance with two players from Maccabi Tel Aviv, Anthony Parker and Nikola Vujcic , all three with combined index ratings of 40 for the week. Panathinaikos hosts Tau next Wednesday, while Winterthur meets Real Madrid and Maccabi hosts Olympiacos on Thursday, with the winners of all three games going to the Final Four. CSKA Moscow, having swept Efes Pilsen 2-0 in their best-of-three quarterfinal series, is the only qualifier to the 2006 Final Four so far.
