2000-01 EIGHTHFINALS
The best-of-three eighthfinals provided some major upsets and thrilling games along the way. Three teams stole the home court advantage to make it to the next round. Benetton Treviso downed Barcelona 0-2 behind an outstanding Marcus Brown, who had 30 points in Game 1 to lead his team to a 85-86 road win and added 17 in Game 2 to sweep the series. Tau Ceramica beat Peristeri 79-81 in Game 1 and made it to the next round with a convincing 81-68 home win in Game 2. Saulius Stombergas had 20 points in Game 2 in Vitoria. Union Olimpija needed 3 games - the only team to do so - to reach the quarterfinals but reached the next round by downing PAOK 69-73 in Thessaloniki with 18 points from Sani Becirovic. All other five qualifiers swept the series by winning Game 1 at home and stealing a road win in Game 2. Kinder Bologna ousted Estudiantes, AEK knocked off Zalgiris, Paf Bologna downed Cibona, Real Madrid defeated Buducnost while Olympiakos beat Verona.
EIGHTHFINAL PLAYOFFS GAME 1
Two road warriors stole the home court advantage in Game 1 of the best-of-three Euroleague eightfinals. Benetton upset Barcelona 85-86 with 30 points from an unstoppable Marcus Brown. In Athens, Tau Ceramica edged Peristeri 79-81 with 25 points from Saulius Stombergas. Alphonso Ford led Peristeri with a Euroleague season-high 41 points. Olympiakos edged Mash Verona 94-92 behind 33 points from Nikos Ekonomou.
EIGHTHFINAL PLAYOFFS GAME 2
As many as seven teams - Paf Bologna, Real Madrid, Virtus Bologna, Olympiakos, Tau Ceramica, Benetton and AEK - reached the quarterfinals by sweeping their respective best-of-three series. Paf edged Cibona 74-75 in overtime behind 10 blocks from Stojko Vrankovic. Virtus topped Estudiantes 80-85 with 17 points from Antoine Rigaudeau while Benetton knocked off Barcelona 99-82, as Petar Naumoski led the winners with 26 points.
EIGHTHFINAL PLAYOFFS GAME 3
Union Olimpija was the last team to make it to the quarterfinals by edging PAOK 69-73 in do-or-die Game 3 in Thessaloniki. Sani Becirovic led the winners with 18 points. Emilio Kovacic added 16 and 10 rebounds for Olimpija, that outrebounded PAOK by 29-42. Evangelos Koronios led PAOK with 24 points. The quarterfinal matchups were: Paf - Real Madrid, Virtus - Olimpija, Olympiakos - Tau and AEK - Benetton.
