EB PlayoffsMaccabi Elite, CSKA, Winterthur FC Barcelona and Tau Ceramica advanced to the 2006 Final Four at the state-of-the-art Sazka Arena in Prague by surviving their respective best-of-three playoff series. CSKA was the only team to sweep its playoff series against Efes Pilsen. The Russian powerhouse reached its fourth consecutive Final Four, looking for its first Euroleague title since 1971. Tau overcame an incredible basketball atmosphere to upset Panathinaikos 71-74 in Game 3 in front of a sellout crowd at OAKA. Serkan Erdogan paced the winners with 24 points while Pablo Prigioni buried back-to-back critical jumpers in crunch time. Fragiskos Alvertis missed from downtown at the buzzer with the chance to tie the game. Maccabi kept its dream to win its third consecutive Euroleague title alive by downing Olympiacos 77-73 in Game 3 in Tel Aviv to win the series 2-1 behind 18 points from Will Solomon. Last but not least, Winterthur FCB reached its first Final Four since winning the title in 2003 by knocking off archrivals Real Madrid 76-70 on Gianluca Basile's late heroics.

QUARTERFINAL PLAYOFFS GAME 1
All four home teams - CSKA Moscow, Maccabi Elite, Winterthur FC Barcelona and Panathinaikos - got closer to the 2006 Final Four, as all four teams survived Game 1 of the best-of-three Quarterfinal Playoff series and are win away from sealing their ticket to Prague. CSKA topped Efes Pilsen 66-57 in Moscow behind 19 points from J.R. Holden, who sealed the outcome with a triple in the next-to-last minute. Defending champion Maccabi took a key step forward with an 87-78 home win against Olympiacos. Nikola Vujcic led five double-figure scorers for Maccabi with 23 points. Winterthur FCB did not find much trouble to down archrivals Real Madrid 72-58. Shammond Williams led Barcelona with 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting. Last but not least, Panathinaikos defeated Tau Ceramica 84-72 with 18,000 fans behind it at OAKA Olympic arena in Athens. Mike Batiste led the winners with 15 points. Even when Tau outrebounded Panathinaikos by 24-40, Batiste and Dejan Tomasevic sealed the outcome for the Greens.

QUARTERFINAL PLAYOFFS GAME 2
CSKA Moscow became the first team to make it to the 2006 Final Four! CSKA reached its fourth consecutive Final Four, a record since the format came to European basketball in 1988, by edging Efes Pilsen 71-72 in Game 2 in Istanbul. Trajan Langdon led the winners with 24 points on 5 of 7 three-pointers against his former team. He also sealed the outcome with free throws. Real Madrid, Olympiacos and Tau Ceramica stayed in the fight to make it to the Final Four. Tau defeated Panathinaikos 85-79 at home in Vitoria, Spain behind 21 points from Travis Hansen and 20 from Luis Scola. Olympiacos topped defending champion Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv 76-70 in Athens with 17 points from an unstoppable Sofoklis Schortsanitis. Panos Vasilopoulos scored the last 7 points for Olympiacos to win it for the Reds. Madrid edged Winterthur FC Barcelona 84-78 behind 22 points from Venson Hamilton. Axel Hervelle and Hamilton shined in a game-breaking 21-7 run which allowed the hosts to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer.

QUARTERFINAL PLAYOFFS GAME 3
Winterthur FC Barcelona, Tau Ceramica and Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv joined CSKA Moscow as the teams that will keep fighting for Euroleague glory in the 2006 Final Four at Sazka Arena in Prague, the Czech Republic. Tau upset Panathinaikos 71-74 in Game 3 in front of a sellout crowd of 18,000 fans in Athens, Greece. Serkan Erdogan led the winners with 24 points, including 4-for-4 free throws in the final 50 seconds. Pablo Prigioni added 12 points and sank a critical jumper down the stretch. Panathinaikos kept its chances alive until the final buzzer, when Alvertis missed an off-balance three-point shot that would have sent the game to overtime. Maccabi edged Olympiacos 77-73 at home behind 18 points from Willie Solomon. He made free throws for a 76-73 Maccabi lead, Manolis Papamakarios missed from downtown while Nikola Vujcic sealed the outcome with a foul shot. Barcelona knocked off archrivals Real Madrid 76-70 at Palau Blaugrana. Michalis Kakiouzis led Barcelona with 19 points but a three-pointer by Gianluca Basile sealed the outcome down the stretch.
