PHASE PAGES, Top 16 2007-08
The twists and turns of the 2007-08 Top 16 were unlike any in the preceding seasons as a number of teams considered to be serious Final Four contenders were ousted already at this stage. The drama went the full six games as half of the eight tickets to the Quarterfinal Playoffs were not decided until the final gameday. Among the most memorable games were Maccabi Elite’s overtime win at Real Madrid in the penultimate week and young Partizan’s stunning win to oust defending champion Panathinaikos in the Top 16 finale. In a sparkling individual feat, Fenerbahce Ulker’s rookie big man Omer Asik needed only five games before setting the Top 16 record for blocked shots with 19.
TOP 16 GAME 1
Trajan Langdon's triple at the buzzer pushed CSKA Moscow past Roma. Barcelona downed Unicaja in Xavi Pascual’s debut on the sidelines. Montepaschi cruised past Partizan with a record 29 steals. Drew Nicholas scored 29 points in Efes Pilsen's win over Panathinaikos. Fenerbahce Ulker and Tau Ceramica both won road games in Group E.
