A great season has allowed Valencia Basket Club to get back to the Eurocup, hoping to go one step further in 2012-13. Valencia went all the way to the Eurocup title game last season but BC Khimki stood on its way to the trophy with a 77-68 win. All-Eurocup first team selection Nik Caner-Medley had 23 points and 11 rebounds which were not enough. Valencia reached the Spanish League semifinals for the first time in nine years but Barcelona prevailed in the best-of-five series. Founded in 1986, Valencia reached the top Spanish League in 1988, but did not stick for good until 1996. Two years later the team claimed its first success, the Spanish King's Cup title, downing DKV Joventut in epic fashion. Soon the then-called Pamesa Valencia became a regular in the Spanish playoffs. In Europe, Pamesa reached the Saporta Cup final twice, losing in 1999 to Benetton and in 2002 to Montepaschi. It all changed for Valencia in the 2002-03 season. First came its first ULEB Cup title as Pamesa swept Krka Novo Mesto in the finals led by Dejan Tomasevic, Nacho Rodilla and Fabricio Oberto. Pamesa then reached the Spanish League finals, before losing to Barcelona. In its Euroleague debut season in 2003-04, Pamesa reached the Top 16 and came within one win of reaching the Final Four. Even when the club did not play the Euroleague until last season, it has a lot of success in the Eurocup, reaching the semifinals in 2005 and making back-to-back trips to the Final Eight in 2007 and 2008. The 2009-10 season marked a new turning point. Coach Neven Spahija and players like Matt Nielsen, De Colo or Victor Claver helped the then-called Power Electronics Valencia to win its second Eurocup title, thrashing Alba Berlin 44-69 in the title game in Vitoria, Spain. In 2010-11, coach Svetislav Pesic arrived after a bad start and led Valencia to a dream season that featured wins against Panathinaikos, CSKA or Real Madrid, among many others. Led by Dusko Savanovic, Omar Cook and Nando De Colo, Valencia reached the Euroleague Quarterfinal Playoffs, losing against Madrid. A third-place regular season finish was not enough for Valencia to go past the quarterfinals. Valencia stayed competitive this season, getting solid results, and now has the goal of becoming the first club to win a third Eurocup title.
