Defending champion BSC Raiffeisen Furstenfeld slipped from a three-way tie for first place in the Austrian League as it became one of four teams to lose home games in Week 12. The Oberwart Gunners and Arkadia Traiskirchen both won to remain tied for the league lead at 10-2. Oberwart routed kelag Worthersee Piraten 106-82 as Jason Johnson scored 20 to lead seven Gunners in double figures in points. Marcus Stout and Jasmon Youngblood added 18 points apiece for the hosts, who took control with a 39-11 third period. Traiskirchen trumped BasketClubs Vienna 73-93 as Deven Mitchell erupted for 43 points and Fabricio David Vay added 26. Arkadia trailed by 4 at halftime, but dominated the second half 25-49. WBC Kraftwerk Wels edged Furstenfeld 84-86. Brandon Thomas paced the winners with 26 points. Allianz Swans Gmunden downed Xion Dukes Klosterneuburg 75-90 behind 23 points from Deteri Mayes. In other games, Thomas Schreiner scored 25 and dished 8 assists to lead UBC St. Polten past okoStadt Güssing Knights 88-76 and Kapfenberg Bulls scored a 67-74 win over UBSC PBS Graz thanks to 19 points and 10 assists from Jeremy Fears. | The Austrian League stays as one of the most balanced in the entire continent. BSC Raiffieisen Furstenfeld Panthers won the title against all odds last season and is ready to win it all again with players like Shawn Ray, Milan Goljovic, Rob Summers and Adam Boone. Oberwart Gunners, that lost the title series in a do-or-die game against Furstenfeld, has made it to three finals since 2005 and is ready to lift its first Bundesliga trophy. Jay Youngblood, Hannes Artner and Jason Johnson are set to lead the Gunners. Austrian Cup champion Allianz Swans Gmunden reached the ULEB Cup eliminaton rounds last season and is now hoping to lift its fourth league trophy in five years. Peter Hutter and scoring machine Deteri Mayes are back in Gmunden, while Swans signed Elijah Palmer, Anthony Fisher, Reggie Huffman and Shelton Colwell. Kapfenberg Bulls, with Ramiz Suljanovic, Wyane Arnold and Jeremy Fears, and Arkadia Traiskirchen Lions, with Deven Mitchell and Spencer Rhynes, are also ready to fight for the Austrian crown. |
