|
Asseco Prokom leads the Polish League standings with an 11-3 record, with Polpharma Starogard Gdanski second at 12-4 and Kotwica Kolobrzeg third at 11-5. Prokom postponed its road game against Energa Czarni Slupsk to March 14. Meanwhile, PGE Turow did not have a game scheduled in this round, so it stayed with a 10-5 record. Both teams face each other in Sopot next week in a highlight anticipated showdown, as Prokom beat Turow in each of the last two Polish League finals. Polpharma confirmed its good moment by edging PBG Basket Poznan 79-74 at home on Saturday. Erick Barkley led the winners with 20 points, Mujo Tuljkovic added 18 while Michael Hicks had 16 for Polpharma, that trailed 51-52 after 30 minutes but managed to seal the outcome in the final minutes. In other games on Saturday, Sokolow Znicz Jaroslaw edged AZS Koszalin 94-87 behind 22 points from Quinton Day while Bank BPS Basket Kwidzyn topped Atlas Stal Ostrow Wlkp. 67-75. Tony Weeden led the way for Kwidzyn with 24 points. On Sunday, Sportino Inowroclaw SA downed Victoria Gornik Walbrzych 54-65 on the road with 24 points from Eddie Miller. Last but not least, Anwil Wloclawek defeated Polonia Warszawa 83-69 behind 19 points from Stope Modric. MORE |

| The Polish League is set to start with everyone wondering if Asseco Prokom will keep dominating the competition as it did in the last five years. Prokom needed to steal Game 7 on the road against Turow to win its fifth consecutive Polish League crown and starts again as the top candidate to win it all yet again this season. Prokom comes back with newcomer David Logan and Daniel Ewing as its main scoring references. Koko Archibong, Filip Dylewicz and Ronnie Burrell round Prokom's roster. Turow, that reached the league finals in the last two seasons, kept coach Saso Filipovski but had to rebuild its team almost from scratch. Still, the arrival of Donald Copeland, Darian Townes, Alex Harris or Bryan Bailey will keep Turow fighting to win its first-ever Polish League title. Energa Czarni Slupsk may well become the surprise team in the competition, led by Rolando Howell, Jack Ingram and Demetric Bennett. As usual, Anwil Wloclawek, featuring Andrzej Pluta, Gerrod Henderson or Paul Miller, and Asco Slask Wroclaw, led by head coach Rimas Kurtinaitis, will be top contenders to challenge Prokom for the title. |
