Elan Chalon - French League championElan sportif chalonnais is the French League champion! Chalon won its first-ever French League title by downing Le Mans 95-76 in the final on Saturday. Chalon became the first team to win the French triple crown - league, cup and Semaine des As - since 2002 and earned the right to play in the 2012-13 Turkish Airlines Euroleague. Blake Schlib paced the winners with 20 points and 10 assists, earning MVP honors. Ilian Evtimov had 15 points, Nicolas Lang and Steed Tchicamboud each added 14, Malcolm Delaney got 12 while Alade Aminu contributed 10 for Chalon. Marcellus Sommerville led Le Mans with 24 points. Alex Acker added 14 while JP Batista and Taylor Rochestie each had 10 for Le Mans. Back-to-back baskets by Rochestie and a three-pointer by Acker gave Le Mans an early 4-7 lead. An outstanding Schlib followed a tip-in with consecutive triples to give Chalon its first lead, 16-11. Evtimov joined the three-point shootout and Schilb nailed a corner three-pointer to make Le Mans call timeout at 22-13, enough for Chalon to keep a 25-18 edge after 10 minutes. Bryant Smith and Lang hit one from beyond the arc in a 15-0 run that broke the game open, 38-18, keeping Le Mans scoreless for almost 6 minutes. Rochestie and Sommerville tried to change things for Le Mans but Schlib, Evtimov and a wild triple by Delaney allowed Chalon to get a 24-lead, 52-28, at halftime. Batista led a 0-7 run that gave Le Mans some hope, 52-35. A three-pointer by Sommerville got his team even closer, 54-40. Schlib, Evtimov and Lang stepped up to make Chalon seal the outcome, 72-49, after 30 minutes. Le Mans kept trying but all Chalon fans had plenty of time to celebrate that their team that finally won the French League title!

Adrien Moerman - SLUC NancySLUC Nancy remains the only unbeaten team in the French league after routing Paris-Levallois 82-64 on Saturday to improve to 6-0. Chalon needed overtime to beat Le Mans 99-91, while BCM Gravelins-Dunkerque took an away win over Cholet, 66-76, to stay in second place with 5-1 records. Nicolas Batum was again Nancy’s main contributor with 19 points, 6 assists and 3 steals as the hosts took care of Paris. The game was tied at halftime, 38-38, but Nancy came out for the second half with greater focus, took the lead by 8 at the end of the third, then pulling ahead further by holding the guests to 9 points in the final 10 minutes. Adrien Moerman and Jamal Shuler added 14 points apiece for Nancy, and Akin Akingabaja hit 12. Lamont Hamilton of Paris led all the scorers with 26 points. In an all-Eurocup showdown, Gravelines routed 66-76 Cholet in a big away win, helped by outrebounding the hosts 41-31. Cholet never found the way to overtake the visitors after falling behind 33-38 at halftime. Yannick Bokolo led the winners with 16 points, Pape Sy drained 12 and Ludovic Vaty 11, while Demetris Nichols was the only double-digit scorer for Cholet with 14 points. Chalon survived an overtime thriller against Le Mans, 99-91, led by 22 points and 8 assists from Blake Schilb. Ilian Evtimov added 18 and Alade Aminu and Malcom Delaney scored 15 apiece for Chalon, while Taylor Rochestie had 28 with 9 assists and Alex Acker 23 points for Le Mans. In a crucial play, Evtimov stole the ball and fed Steed Tchicamboud for an easy two points to send the game into overtime, where the fans helped the home team make a decisive push. Le Havre downed Avsel Basket 77-68 after trailing 36-39 at halftime. The hosts took control during the third quarter, and maintained it through the end. Nicholas Pope buried 24 points and John Cox 20 for Le Havre. Tony Parker scored 21 and Phil Goss put in 14 for Asvel.
