Interview with Xavi Pascual
Xavi Pascual - FC Barcelona RegalThe Mastermind Coaching Seminars offer 5 coaches with more than 70 European and national championships combined and endless years of experience at the highest competitive level. What else do you think it offers?

I think you can find different ways to prepare the games (technically, tactically) and about the metodology. But all the different ways lead to the same one: winning.

What special emphasis do you think differentiates your particular Mastermind Coaching Seminar from the others?

Every coach by himself is different and everyone has part of the rest, and specially myself because I am the youngest one. But what they can learn is that depending of who you play against nothing is the same, either on offense or defense.

Ettore Messina, Aito Garcia Reneses, Zelimir Obradovic, Xavi Pascual and Sergio Scariolo - rivals on the court yet collaborators in this initiative. What could the “elders” learn from the “youngster” and vice versa?

All coaches need to be open to learn from everybody and you don’t have to make differences because the age. But specially for the youngest ones, the quantity of memories and experiences than these coaches have had help to find very rich solutions.

If you were a student for your own seminar, which individual lesson would you be most interested in reading?

I don’t know. I hope all my lessons will be interesting for the students. I strongly believe that if it only a single idea said by one of us is used for their teams when they are coaching I will be very satisfied of this seminar.

Which specific aspect of coaching (if any) would you most like to be remembered by after you have retired from coaching?

It is tough to choose one. But maybe that my teams are the fastest offensively organized possibly.

Since students are known for open minded communication and always questioning everything, could you please describe the difference between your relationship with students on this seminar and your players?

This is my first experience and I don’t know how is gonna be yet. But the dialogue is one of the fundamentals as a coach. I hope they enjoy with this experience.

What is it about the basketball that is currently being played in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague that you would most like to transmit to fellow coaches around the world?

The most important thing about the Turkish Airlines Eurolegue is the competitiveness. Any team can lose against anybody.
