The latest edition of the Euroleague Basketball Institute Master in Sports Management & Marketing started last week in Barcelona, Spain, with the first in-person session taking place at Euroleague Basketball’s headquarters. Students were introduced to the topics of Basketball Operations, Financial Fair Play, Ticketing, Legal, Sports Stakeholders, Global Expansion, and Corporate Social Responsibility.
The 2016-17 class will join a long list of 199 alumni from 36 countries across the globe. Students from countries as varied as the Russian Federation, Slovenia, Turkey and the United States of America came together over three days as the first step in the year-long master’s program. The e-learning, led by academic and industry staff, will continue throughout the course, with students reconvening in Venice, Italy for the second session in January 2017, before meeting up again in Istanbul, Turkey for the 2016-17 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four. The fourth and final session will see them come back together in July 2017 in Venice to present their final projects and complete the course with a graduation ceremony.
"The opportunity to learn from the senior management of one of the top basketball organisations in the world is invaluable," student Kevin Tarca said. "More importantly, I am able to immerse myself in entirely new cultures and build international relationships that will last a lifetime. One of the best ways to gain knowledge is to surround yourself with people that are smarter and more experienced than you and the EBI Master does exactly that."
"To be a part of Europe's most important basketball event, to become acquainted with visionary executives, to see the whole Euroleague Basketball organisation from the inside is an unprecedented experience." another student Efe Parmaksiz, said. "The first session in Barcelona definitely exposed participants to the vast world of international sports marketing. Last but not least, it is one of the unique master programs designed in a way combining online and offline learning methodologies which is ideal for working individuals such as myself."
