The results in Wednesday’s four games means that halfway through Top 16, Week 4, no teams have yet to clinch Playoffs spots, but no teams have been eliminated either. That could change on Thursday with three teams targeting Playoffs berths. Group F was the only one to have both games on Wednesday. Montepaschi Siena downed Unicaja 84-69 behind 18 points from Bo McCalebb in a game that was close for three quarters. The result was Siena’s eighth straight win and left it 4-0 in the Top 16 needing just one more win to reach the Playoffs. Gescrap BB dominated Real Madrid 93-69 in Group F’s other game. If Madrid would have won, it would have send both Los Blancos and the Italian champs through to the next stage. Kostas Vasiliadis scored 19 and Aaron Jackson went off for 15 points and 10 assists to pace Bilbao, which is now tied with Madrid for second place at 2-2, but now holds the tiebreaker between them. In Group E’s lone Wednesday game, Olympiacos edged Anadolu Efes 65-67 on Kostas Sloukas’s free throws with 10 seconds left. The Result gave the Reds a sweep of Efes, which could prove very meaningful in the Playoffs race. Kostas Papanikolaou and Georgios Printezis netted 16 each for Olympiacos. And in Group F, EA7 Emporio Armani bested Unics Kazan 63-58 in what was the hosts’ first Top 16 victory and the visitors’ first Top 16 loss. Antonis Fotsis made 4 of 5 three-pointers for 16 points to lead Armani. Kazan is one win from the Playoffs. The first of Thursday’s games comes from Group H with Zalgiris Kaunas(0-3) vs. FC Barcelona Regal (3-0) at 18:45 CET. The Lithuanian champs challenged last week in Barcelona before the hosts pulled away late. A loss could end Zalgiris’s playoff chances. The only undefeated team in the competition is also the only team that controls its destiny this week. CSKA Moscow (3-0) travels to GS Medical Park (1-2) knowing that a win puts it through to the playoffs, though the Russian champs will need to wait at least another week to mathematically clinch first place in Group E. The fans at Nokia Arena in Tel Aviv will be ready for a must-win clash for their beloved team when Maccabi Electra (1-2) hosts Bennet Cantu (2-1) at 20:05. After Cantu won by 8 last week, Maccabi will be targeting not only a victory, but also to eclipse the margin it lost by in order to gain the potential tiebreaker between the teams. Top 16, Week 4 ends with the Game of the Week in which defending champion Panathinaikos (2-1) faces Fenerbahce Ulker (1-2) at 20:45. The Greens will come into the game knowing the result of Wednesday’s other Group G game, which will dictate whether a playoff ticket will be on the line already in this game. Every game features major playoff implications, so don’t miss what could be one of the most exciting weeks of the season!
