Euroleague Basketball whiteThe Euroleague Commercial Assets Board on Wednesday approved a proposal to award EA7 Emporio Armani Milan of Italy with a two-year A License in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague. The license became available as a wild card following the loss of Lottomatica Roma.

After these two additional seasons, Milano will have fulfilled the transitory three-year period that all other clubs have completed prior to receiving a definitive A License. Milan, the winningest club in Italian basketball history, had already qualified for the 2012-13 Turkish Airlines Euroleague as runner-up this season in Lega Basket Serie A. Euroleague Basketball proposed Milan as an A License recipient according to the measures set out in the organization by-laws for replacing expired licenses.

When making the decision Euroleague Basketball has taken into consideration many factors. Historically, Milan is one of the most important basketball cities in Europe. The club ranks first in Italian titles with 25 and is tied for sixth in Euroleague titles, with three. The club has been able to work at consolidating a project with the help and support of its title sponsor, Emporio Armani, who has committed itself to the growth of basketball in the city. As the second-largest city in Italy, with a population of 1.3 million, Milan is both a leading market in terms of potential fans and a mass media hub. The urban area, known as Greater Milan, and includes those living outside the city's strict limits, has 5 million people, making it the fifth-largest municipal region in Europe. EA7 Emporio Armani Milan plays its home games at the 11,200-seat Mediolanum Forum.
