Baltic League Final Four: April 20-21, 2007
Lietuvos Rytas successfully defended its Baltic League title with a 77-81 win over rival Zalgiris Kaunas in the championship game on Saturday at the Baltic League Final Four in Riga, Latvia. Kareem Rush scored 22 points as his teamed pulled away early and coasted until the final minutes. Zalgiris stormed back to make a game out of it in the fourth quarter, but L. Rytas held steady and made the crucial free throws down the stretch to ice the win and title. Just weeks after losing to Real Madrid in the ULEB Cup Final in Charleroi, the title gave L. Rytas something to celebrate. Zalgiris and L. Rytas have both qualified already for the Lithuanian League semifinals and could meet again there in what would surely be a hotly contested series. Uvis Helmanis scored 19 to lead Ventspils over Siauliai 94-88 in the third-place game.

2006-07 BALTIC LEAGUE PREVIEW
The Baltic League enters its third edition with a new look, a brand new website and a new competition system, too. Teams - 8 Lithuanian, 4 Latvian and 2 Estonian - will be divided in 2 groups. After a round-robin league, a second stage will take place. The best six teams will be in the upper group and fight for two direct final four spots, while the remaining eight teams will be in the bottom group. Teams ranking 3th to 6th join the best two teams from the bottom group in a eight-team playoffs to get the other two final four berths. Defending champions Lietuvos Rytas stayed competitive and will be the team to beat once again this season. Rytas kept Roberts Stelmahers, Matt Nielsen, Andrius Slezas or Tomas Delininkaitis while adding Eurelijus Zukauskas, Andre Emmett, Titus Ivory, Marijus Petravicius or Janis Blums. It comes as no surprise when Zalgiris is the top contender to beat archrivals L. Rytas and win its second Baltic League title. Zalgiris signed players almost as each spot, adding Marko Popovic, Vaidotas Peciukas, Hanno Mottola or Marcelinho Machado while keeping some of its top young players like Paulius Jankunas, Jonas Maciulis or Mantas Kalnietis. Tanoka Beard will be the team's scoring reference. Perennial Latvian League champions Ventspils will be the alternative to both Lithuanian powerhouses. The team brought back some familiar faces like Justin Love or Aigars Vitols, as well as landing shooter Uvis Helmanis or playmaker Eddie Shannon. They will joined forces with Dalron Johnson, Ivars Timermanis or Maris Laksa to stay competitive in each competition. BC Siauliai, with Audrius Danusevicius or Arturas Masiulis, Barons / LU, led by Armands Skele and Steve Rich, and BC Kalev, now with James Allen, Travis Reed and Tanel Sokk, will also try to reach high in the competition.
