German Cup Final Four: April 28-29, 2007
Demond Mallet RheinEnergie is the German Cup winner! RheinEnergie lifted its third German Cup in four years by edging the Artland Dragons 60-58 in the title game in Hamburg on Sunday. Demond Mallet led the winners with 21 points while Martin Gortat added 10 for RheinEnergie. Anthony Caner had 13 points for the Dragons while Adam Hess added 12. Mallet and Immanuel McElroy led RheinEnergie to a 23-14 lead after 10 minutes, while Gortat, a hyperactive Devin Green and a red hot Mallet allowed the reigning German League champion to stay ahead, 38-31, at halftime. A basket by Hess got the Dragons within 40-37, but Aleksandar Nadjfeji allowed his team to stay ahead, 47-44, after 30 minutes. The Dragons even tied it at 47-47, but once again Mallet stepped up to give RheinEnergie a 56-51 edge with 4 minutes to go. Free throws by Bryan Bailey brought the Dragons within 58-57 with 20 seconds to go. Mallet hit 1 of 2 foul shots while the Dragons missed the chance to win it at the buzzer, as Lamont McIntosh missed a three-point shot in the game's final possession.

RheinEnergie and the Dragons advanced to the title by winning their respective semifinals on Saturday. RheinEnergie did not find much trouble to down EnBW Ludwigsburg 74-85 behind 22 points from Mallet. Nadjfeji added 17, McElroy had 12 and 9 rebounds while Mlajden Sjlivancanin scored 11 points for the winners. Meanwhile, the Dragons edged Eisbaren Bremenhaven 78-79 on a game-winning put-back basket by Hall. Bremenhaven led 44-33 at halftime but the Dragons rallied in the second half and Hall allowed his team to make it to the final. McIntosh led the winners with 17 points, Jan Rohdewald added 15 while Zygimantas Jonusas led Bremenhaven with 16 points. Ludwigsburg beat Bremenhaven 82-74 in the third place game with 29 points from Gordon Scott.
