Russian League, Game 4: October 24-29, 2006
Only four Russian League games took place this week, as CSKA Moscow keeps leading the standings with a 4-0 record despite not playing this week. Unics Kazan had less troubles than expected to beat University Surgut 87-66 and improve to 3-0 in the standings. Sergei Chikalkin led the winners with 21 points on 9-for-13 shooting. Ksystof Lavrinovic added 16 points and 10 rebounds, his twin brother Darjus also posted a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds, Yahor Meshcharakou also had 14 points and Saulius Stombergas chipped in 12 in an easy home win for Unics, which led 23-10 after 10 minutes and never looked back. Meanwhile, BC Khimki topped Lokomotiv-Rostov 79-64 on Tuesday to improve to 3-1 in the standings. Ruben Wolkowyski led the way with 22 points, Melvin Booker added 12, Vladimir Veremeenko had 11 and Vitaliy Fridzon 10 for Khimki, which trailed 41-42 midway through the third quarter. Wolkowyski exploded with 12 quick points and allowed Khimki to seal the win long before the final buzzer. Dynamo Moscow also improved to 3-1 by topping Samara 86-79 at home. Travis Hansen had 17 points for Dynamo, Lazaros Papadopoulos added 14 and Sergey Monya 12. Dynamo led 79-62 with 5 minutes to go and Samara only rallied in the final period. In the other game, Ural Great needed overtime to edge Spartak 80-84 in St. Petersburg on Saturday. Sam Hoskin led the way with 28 points and 10 rebounds.
