Spirou Charleroi had to battle for all 40 minutes to edge Sanex Antwerp G in the big Belgian League showdown on Saturday. Charleroi improved to 17-7 to stay atp the standings while Antwerp is second at 15-8. Greg Grays led the winners with 25 points, Ralph Biggs added 18 and Tremmell Darden 14. Len Matela had 27 points for Antwerp while Gur Shelef added 18. A 0-10 run that Biggs capped with a triple gave Charleroi a 56-67 lead with 6 minutes to go. Antwerp managed to get within 72-73 but free throws by Darden put the guests' victory on ice. Telindus Oostende and Dexia-Mons Hainaut registered respective road losses to drop to 13-11 in the standings. Liege Basket beat Oostende 87-69 behind 27 points from Morris Finley. Elvir Ovcina and Rashad Wright each had 13 points for Oostende, Titus Ivory and Veselin Petrovic added 11 apiece while Glen McGowan tallied 10 for the guests. Meanwhile, Okapi Aalstar downed Mons 82-65 at home. Eric Poole and Wes Wilkinson each had 18 points for the winners. George Evans led all scorers with 19 while Johnny Taylor had 10 for Mons. In other games, Verviers-Pepinster edged Basket Gr Leuven 65-67 with late free throws from Justin Gray while Euphony Bree beat Atomia Brussels 81-84 on the road on Sunday.
