Adriatic League, Game 22: February 23, 2008
Partizan Igokea stayed first in the Adriatic League at 19-2 despite not playing this week. Cibona opted not to travel to Belgrade to face Partizan due to security issues and asked for the game to be postponed. Even when Partizan and the Serbian government guaranteed Cibona all security measures to play the game, Cibona opted to follow the advice given by the Croatian ministry of foreign affairs not to travel to Belgrade. As such, the Adriatic League has announced that the game has been postponed until further notice. It was a weekend of surprises, too. FMP thrashed Hemofarm Stada 79-61 in Zeleznik on Saturday behind 17 points from Bojan Krstovic. Union Olimpija edged Siroki Prima Pivo 60-63 on the road on Saturday behind 16 points from Goran Dragic, that followed free throws with a layup in the final seconds. Zadar dropped to 17-5 due to a 78-73 road loss against Geoplin Slovan despite 25 points by Shammel Stallworth. Buducnost moved down to 12-10 because of a 80-72 road loss against Split CO while Zagreb downed Crvena Zvezda 84-82 behind 26 points from Krunoslav Simon, that also had the game-winning free throws. In other games, Vojvodina Srbijagas topped Helios Domzale 87-79.
FMP confirmed its good moment by thrashing Hemofarm Stada 79-61 in Zeleznik on Saturday. FMP improved to 12-10 while Hemofarm dropped to 13-9. Krstovic paced the winners with 17 points. Mladen Jeremic added 13 while Zoran Erceg and Dragan Labovic had 11 apiece for FMP. Vladan Vukosavljevic had 23 points for Hemofarm, that trailed all the way in this game. Labovic, Krstovic and a triple by Erceg gave FMP a 22-11 lead after 10 minutes. Vukosavljevic tried to change things for Hemofarm but FMP boosted its margin to 45-29 at halftime. A 15-4 run that Labovic capped with a triple sealed the outcome, 62-39, early in the fourth quarter. Union Olimpija ties for third place at 13-9 by edging Siroki Prima Pivo 60-63 on the road on Saturday behind 16 points from Dragic. A 2-18 run that Maurice Bailey capped with free throws gave Olimpija a 18-32 margin late in the first half. Olimpija led all the way since that moment but Siroki got within 58-59 already in the final minute. Dragic followed free throws with a layup to win it for Olimpija down the stretch.
Zadar dropped to 17-5 due to a 78-73 road loss against Geoplin Slovan. De Marco Johnson led Slovan with 18 points. Stallworth had 25 points for Zadar while Corey Brewer added 12 for the guests. Both teams were tied at 73-73 in the final minute but Stipe Modric buried a decisive triple to pur Slovan ahead for good. Buducnost moved down to 12-10 because of a 80-72 road loss against Split CO. Dejan Ivanov paced the winners with 19 points. Vladislav Dragojlovic had 17 points for Buducnost, Bojan Bakic added 15, Ivan Maras had 12 and Vladimir Micov 11 for the guests, that trailed 62-47 late in the third quarter and did not managed to get back in the game. Crvena Zvezda dropped to 13-9 due to a 84-82 road loss against Zagreb. Simon led the way for Zagreb with 26 points. Tadija Dragicevic had 22 points to lead Zvezda, Omar Cook added 18, Miroslav Raicevic got 11 while Elmedin Kikanovic and Boris Bakic each scored 10 points for the guests. Three-pointers by Cook and Dragicevic tied the game, 80-80, Hrvoje Kovacevic and Cook traded free throws, while more foul shots by Simon gave Zagreb a 84-82 edge in the final seconds. Zvezda did not manage to get a shot in the game's final possession.
