Belgian League, Regular Season, Game 14: December 22, 2007
Four became two at the top of the competitive Belgian League. Victories for defending champion Telindus Oostende and Spirou Basket Charleroi saw the two improve to 10-4 and remain locked atop the table – one victory ahead of Belgacom Liege Basket and Dexia Mons-Hainaut, which were both parts of a four-way deadlock just a week ago. The biggest game saw Oostende see off Mons on the road 72-77 behind Chuck Davis’s clutch play. The game was exciting throughout, with Mons up 43-39 at halftime and scoring the first 4 points of the third period before a Elvir Ovcina and Sam Van Rossom stepped up in a 3-20 Oostened run to make it 50-59. Still Mons kept it close in the fourth, but Davis helped head coach Sharon Drucker’s side seal the win. Charleroi beat Antwerp Diamond Giants on the road 65-77. After a close first half, which ended with Spirou ahead 32-35, Len Matela scored 7 during a 2-16 third-quarter run that gave the visitors the lead for good and Antwerp never seriously challenged again. Matela led Spirou with 17 points, Adam Hall and Tremmell Darden added 13 each, Andre Riddick scored 11 and Justin Hamilton 10. Brandon Gay paced Antwerp with 19 and Ian Hanavan had 14. Liege went down 88-58 at Basket Bree, which was led by Odell Hodge with 23 points and 27 rebounds. In other games, Generali Okapi Aalstar edged Spotter Leuven 68-66 behind Matt Lojeski's 34 points and VOO Verviers-Pepinster defeated Optima Gent 68-76 as Jamar Wilson netter 21.
