Belgian League playoffs, Quarterfinals, Game 1: May 13, 2008
Trevor Huffman - Okapi Aalstar (generaliokapiaalstar.be) Generali Okapi Aalstar stunned defending champion Telindus BC Oostende 71-79 on the road in the opening game of the Belgian League quarterfinals on Tuesday. Dexia Mons-Hainaut also won to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three playoffs series. The winners of the two series will meet Spirou Basket Charleroi and Basket Bree, respectively, in the semifinals. Trevor Huffman hit 4 three-pointers in the last 11 minute and Matt Lojeski backed him up with a hot hand as Aalstar turned the tables on Oostende in the fourth quarter to take a shocking win. Oostende was still within 4 with two minutes remaining, but the visitors made 9 of 10 free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Lojeski led Aalstar with 19 points and 8 rebounds and Huffman added 16 points. Veselin Petrovic paced Oostende with 15 points and Jerry Green and Chuck Davis added 12 each. Meanwhile Mons bested Belgacom Liege Basket 83-75 in a topsy-turvy game. The hosts trailed by double figures early, but dominated the middle two periods 60-23 to take control. Liege never quit and cut the to single digits by holding Mons to 11 fourth-quarter points, but it was not enough. Justin Gray carried Mons with 29 points.
