French League, Game 19: February 22-23, 2008
Antoine Mendy - Pau-Orthez Le Mans, Sluc Nancy and Asvel Basket now tie for first place atop the French League standings, each with a 14-5 record. Le Mans rallied from a 12-point deficit in the final 9 minutes to beat Orleans 74-67 at home on Saturday. Luka Bogdanovic paced the winners with 17 points and 11 rebounds. A mamooth 21-0 run allowed Le Mans to win the game down the stretch. Pau-Orthez improved to 7-12 by edging Asvel Basket 96-97 behind 40 points from Antonio Graves, including the game-winning free throw with seconds to go. Robert Conley had 24 points for Asvel. Meanwhile, Nancy dropped to 14-5 due to a 72-78 home loss against Dijon. Chorale Roanne improved to 13-6 and stayed fourth by downing Gravelines 82-72 at home on Saturday behind 18 points each from Marc Salyers and Brion Rush. Strasbourg improved to 11-8 and kept its momentum going by overwhelming Clermont 53-86 on the road on Saturday with 18 points from Eddie Shannon. Elan Chalon improved to 8-11 by edging Paris 64-75 on the road on Saturday. John Ford led the winners with 18 points. In other games, Cholet topped Le Havre 89-77 while Vichy downed Hyeres-Toulon 74-66.

Le Mans joined a three-way tie atop the standings by rallying to beat Orleans 74-67 at home on Saturday. Bogdanovic paced the winners with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Alain Koffi added 14 points, Nebojsa Bogavac had 12 while Raviv Limonad got 11 for Le Mans, that trailed 48-60 with 9 minutes to go. Le Mans was not done, however, as Koffi and Bogdanovic fueled a game-breaking 21-0 run that Limonad and Bogavac capped with consecutive three-pointers to give the hosts a 69-60 margin with 3 minutes to go, enough to seal the outcome. Chorale Roanne improved to 13-6 and stayed fourth by downing Gravelines 82-72 at home on Saturday. Salyers and Rush paced the winners each with 18 points. Salyers added 11 rebounds for a double-double. Adam Hess and Laurent Cazalon added 10 apiece for Roanne, that trailed 61-63 with 7 minutes to go. Rush and Pierric Poupet fueled a 9-2 final run that allowed the hosts to get a big win. Nancy dropped to 14-5 due to a 72-78 home loss against Dijon. Maleye Ndoye led the winners with 19 points. Jeff Greer had 16 points for Nancy, Pape Amagou added 14 while DJ Harrison and Cyril Julian each got 13 for Nancy. Julian added 11 rebounds for a double-double. Damir Krupalija followed a triple with a four-point play to seal the outcome in the final 3 minutes.

Pau-Orthez improved to 7-12 by edging Asvel Basket 96-97 behind 40 points from Graves. Antywane Robinson added 20 while Antoine Mendy had 14 for Pau. Conley had 24 points for Asvel, Lamayn Wilson added 21, Uche Nsonwu posted a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, Aymeric Jeanneau got 12 points while Chevon Troutman tallied 10 for Asvel. Graves led Pau to a 62-71 lead after 30 minutes. Wilson and Conley fueled a 16-3 run that Jeanneau capped with a layup for a 92-87 Asvel edge. Graves and Mendy combined for all points in a 4-10 final run that Graves capped with a free throw. Yohann Sangare missed from way downtown in the game's final possession. Strasbourg improved to 11-8 and kept its momentum going by overwhelming Clermont 53-86 on the road on Saturday behind 18 points from Shannon. Derrick Obasohan added 15, Elson Mendy had 13, Aaron Pettway 11 and Rob Lewin 10 for Strasbourg, that led 31-41 at halftime and boosted its margin to 39-63 after 30 minutes, enough to seal the outcome. Elan Chalon improved to 8-11 by edging Paris 64-75 on the road on Saturday. Ford led the winners with 18 points. Philippe Braud added 14 while Jermaine Guice and Moussa Badiane each had 11 for Chalon, that led 35-59 after 30 minutes and held of a wild Paris rally to add a major road win.
