Cup of Russia Quarterfinals, 1st leg: December 15, 2007
The Russian Cup reached its two-way quarterfinals and four teams - Dynamo Moscow, Khimki, Unics and CSKA - got respective leads in their respective 1st leg games on Saturday. CSKA thrashed Triumph Lyubertsy 62-87 on the road to get a 25-point lead in the series. David Andersen paced the winners with 21 points, Trajan Langdon added 14, Marcus Goree had 13 and J.R. Holden 12 for CSKA. Ognjen Askrabic led Triumph with 16 points while Fedor Dmitriev and Uros Slokar each added 11. CSKA led 28-38 at halftime but Goree, Zakhar Pashutin and a final triple by Nikos Zisis boosted the guests' lead to 36-59 late in the third quarter. Dynamo had to battle harder to edge CSK VVS-Samara 76-79 behind 19 points from Henry Domercant. Robertas Javtokas added 17, Milos Vujanic had 11 and Sergey Monya 10 for Dynamo, that led 68-79 late in the game and still manage to get a three-point lead in the series. Unics topped Spartak Vgues 69-78 with 20 points from Sergei Chikalkin and 18 from Dmitriy Sokolov. Unics led 9-28 early and managed to keep a nine-point lead in the series. Meanwhile, Khimki topped Lokomotiv Rostov 76-83 behind 13 points from Mike Wilkinson. Nikita Shabalkin added 12, Anton Ponkrashov had 11 and Vladimir Veremeenko 10 for Khimki, that led 50-68 after 30 minutes and never looked back. The 2nd round takes place from December 21st to 29th.
