Russian Cup Quarterfinals, 2nd leg: December 21-29, 2007
Unics Kazan, Dynamo Moscow, CSKA Moscow and Khimki advanced to the Russian Cup final four by surviving their respective two-way quarterfinal series. CSKA did not find much trouble to down Triumph Lyubertsy 89-78 and win the series by a 35-point margin. Ramunas Siskauskas and David Andersen paced the winners each with 17 points, J.R. Holden added 13 while Trajan Langdon had 10 for CSKA. Terrell Lyday had 16 points for Triumph, Fedor Likholitov added 14, Kristaps Valters 12, Uros Slokar 11 and Mire Chatman 10 for the guests, who trailed 65-64 late in the game. Three-pointers by Siskauskas, Zakhar Pashutin and Nikos Zisis allowed CSKA to sweep the series. Khimki also swept its quarterfinal series by thrashing Lokomotiv Rostov 104-76 at home behind 21 points and 12 rebounds from Kelly McCarty. Anton Ponkrashov added 16 points, Daniel Ewing had 15, Vladimir Veremeenko 13 and Teemu Rannikko 11 in an easy win for Khimki. Dynamo advanced to the final four by beating Samara 87-79 in Moscow. Milos Vujanic led Dynamo with 17 points, Sergei Bykov added 15, Robertas Javtokas had 12, Henry Domercant and Yuro Vasilyev each got 11 while Travis Hansen tallied 10 for the winners. Unics needed two overtime to reach the next round with a 105-105 tie against Spartak Primorie. Unics won the series due to a 69-78 road win in the 1st leg. Sergei Chikalkin and Darjus Lavrinovic each had 20 points for Unics, Dusko Savanovic added 16, Jerry McCullough 15 and Tariq Kirksay 10 for the hosts. Joseph Blair had 26 points for Primorie. J.R. Bremer sank a triple that tied the series at the end of regulation, 76-85. A put-back basket by Kirksay helped Unics to stay alive, 92-101, after 45 minutes. Savanovic and Lavrinovic allowed Unics to reach the final four. The Russian Cup final four takes place in Kazan on February 6-7.
