Swiss Cup Final: March 30, 2008
SAV Vacallo lifted the Swiss Cup for the third time in club history by downing Lugano Tigers 76-65 on Saturday at the St. Croix Arena in Fribourg. Martin Mihajlovic scored 23 to pace Vacallo, which also lifted the cup in 1999 and 2000. Mihajlovic played a pivotal role early on, scoring the first 12 points for Vacallo to spark a 24-9 run to take the lead for good and never look back. Entering in the last 10 minutes Vacallo, led 62-43, but the Tigers climbed to within 65-56. However the Tigers never became a real threat. Vacallo got 15 points from Rickey Gibson, 13 from Nikola Dacevic, 10 from Westher Molteni and 6 from Manuel Raga Jr. who won his fifth Swiss Cup. Jean-Baptiste Bah scored 21 points for Lugano and Derek Stockalper added 10.
