Dutch Cup semifinals: March 5-9, 2008
Travis Young - EiffelTowersThe Dutch Cup Final will pit league leader MyGuide Amsterdam against defending champion EiffelTowers Den Bosch after the two teams won their respective semifinals last week. Amsterdam topped the West Brabant Giants 95-90 on Tuesday and EiffelTowers bested the Rotterdam Challengers 96-88 on Sunday. Teddy Gipson had a big fourth quarter and Jeron Roberts drilled a clutch three-pointer to hold off a spirited challenge from the Giants. Sheiku Kabba led Amsterdam with 18 points, Gipson scored 17 and Tamien Trent had 16. Patrick Pope paced the Giants with 27 points, while Devonne Giles netted 19 and Andre Harris had 17. Rotterdam rallied in the second period to take a 44-48 halftime lead, but the EiffelTowers turned the tables and outscored the Challengers by 10 in the third quarter to take the lead for good. Despite shooting 53.8% from downtown, the visitors committed 17 turnovers, which proved to be their undoing. Travis Young hit 5 triples on his way to 24 points for Den Bosch, Brandon Griffin added 18 points and 10 rebounds, Darrell Tucker scored 13 and Roye Berkowitz 10. Djoenie Steenvoorde led the Challengers with 19, Sullivan Sykes added 17, Jeroen Slor 16 and Chaz Briggs posted 13 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.
