Panagiotis Liadelis - Azovmash Mariupol Azovmash Mariupol is the Ukrainian League champion! Azovmash won its third consecutive Ukrainian League title by edging archrivals BC Kyiv 84-79 to win the best-of-five final series 3-1. Panagiotis Liadelis paced the winners with 22 points on 6-for-9 two-pointers, 2-for-2 triples and 4-for-4 free throws. Robert Archibald added 19 on 6-for-7 two-pointers, Tomas Delininkaitis had 15, Yahor Meshcharakou got 11 while Rodney Buford pulled down 12 rebounds for Azovmash. Artur Drozdov led Kyiv with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Ryan Stack added 14 points, Josh Davis had 11 while Marcus Faison got 10 for the guests. Archibald had 6 points in an 8-0 opening run for Azovmash. Kyiv could not find the way to the basket while a free throw by Remon Van de Hare gave Azovmash a 17-3 margin after 7 minutes. Kyiv got its deficit to 24-13 after 10 minutes and then again to 39-34 right before halftime. Meshcharakou, Liadelis and Archibald stepped up after the break to keep Azovmash ahead, as Drozdov only got Kyiv within 67-59 after 30 minutes. It was do-or-die time for the guests and a free throw by Drozdov made it a two-point game, 78-76, with 2 minutes to go. Azovmash lifted its third Ukrainian Cup trophy by downing archrivals BC Kyiv 73-63 in the title game in Sumy on Sunday. For the first time ever, both Men's and Women's Ukrainian Cup finals were played in the same venue in a final four format. Gerrod Henderson led the winners with 18 points. Robert Archibald and Rodney Buford each added 14, Yahor Meshcharakou had 12 while Sergiy Lishchuk grabbed 12 rebounds for Azovmash, whose new coach Memi Becirovic could not have a better start. Artur Drozdov had 26 points for Kyiv while Josh Davis added 11. Three-pointer by Buford and Meshcharakou gave Azovmash a 14-9 lead early in the game. Marcus Faison, Drozdov and a triple by Davis brought Kyiv as close as 17-16 after 10 minutes. Archibald followed a basket with a triple, igniting a game-breaking 18-0 run in which Henderson allowed his team to break the game open, 38-18, late in the first half. Back-to-back three-pointers by Drozdov got Kyiv within 41-28 at halftime. Panos Liadelis and Henderson paced Azovmash after the break while another three-pointer by Meshcharakou gave his team a 56-41 margin after 30 minutes. Archibald sealed the outcome, 67-46, with 8 minutes to go, as Kyiv did not recover and allowed all Azovmash fans to celebrate yet another Ukrainian Cup title!
