Austrian League, Regular Season, Game 10: December 20-22, 2008
The Oberwart Gunners outlasted WBC Kraftwerk Wels 96-83 in a top-of-the-table clash as the number of teams tied for first place in the Austrian League fell from four to three. Oberwart improved to 8-2 and is now tied with Arkadia Traiskirchen and BSC Raiffeisen Furstenfeld for first place, with Wels one win behind. Marcus Stout and Jasmon Youngblood scored 22 points apiece and Marko Moric added 20 points and 10 boards to lead the Gunners, who led 50-41 at halftime and blew the game open with a 27-15 third quarter. Traiskirchen left it till late before coming from behind to beat UBSC PBS Graz on the road 69-79. raz led by 10 entering the fourth quarter, but the visitors romped 11-31 in the last 10 minutes for the win. Deven Mitchell led the winners with 31 points and 11 rebounds. The defending champs from Furstenfeld outscored the okoStadt Gussing Knights 32-9 in the first period to set the stage for an 84-68 win. Shawn Ray led Furstenfeld with 19 points. Meanwhile traditional powerhouse Allianz Swans Gmunden fell two wins off the lead by losing 96-88 at kelag Worthersee Piraten. In other games, Xion Dukes Klosterneuburg bested BasketClubs Vienna 98-103 thanks to Christoph Nagler’s 38 points and UBC St. Polten topped Kapfenberg Bulls 74-61.
