In the top game of the weekend, defending champion Spirou Basket Charleroi edged Generali Okapi Aalstar 74-76 and is now tied atop the Belgian League with Dexia Mons-Hainaut, who had a week off. The two clubs share a 17-6 record, while Okapi Aalstar is just behind at 16-7. Spirou seemed to be in full control at 40-62 with 10 minutes to go, but Okapi summoned a monster comeback in the fourth quarter and Spirou had to work hard to hold the hosts off and win the 74-76 thriller. Jerry Johnson scored 14 points, Len Matela and Matt Walsh came off the bench to contribute with 12 points apiece and Dwayne Broyles added 10 points for the champs. For Okapi, Pablo Gonzales netted 15 points and Mo Charlo had 14. Fourth-place Antwerp Diamond Giants topped Spotter Leuven 74-72 behind 25 points from Bryan Hopkins, who nailed 6 three-pointers. Christopher Young scored 19 points and pulled down 7 rebounds for the visitors. Base BC Oostende downed end-of-the-table Optima Gent 93-86 as Michael Bauer, Robert Hite and Veselin Petrovic had 17 points each for the winners, while Brandon Freeman and Kevin Melsnon combined for 45 points for the guests. Belgacom Liege Basket picked up a 73-81 victory over VOO Verviers-Pepinster behind 21 points from Justin Cage and 20 points from Larry Owens. The dynamic duo also combined for 8 assists and 6 steals.
