Jerry Johnson - Spirou BasketSpirou Basket Charleroi survived an outstanding last-second thriller and took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five Belgian League finals by edging Dexia Mons-Hainaut 76-75 at home in Game 1 on a buzzer-beating game-winning jumper by Jerry Johnson. Matt Walsh led the winners with 23 points on 5-for-8 three-pointers. Johnson added 14 while Len Matela had 11 for Spirou. Elton Nesbitt led Mons with 17 points. Caleb Green added 15, Ben Ebong had 12 while Marcellus Sommerville got 11 for the guests in defeat. Spirou rolled early, using a 10-1 run that Johnson capped with a jumper to get a 10-3 lead. Walsh, Johnson and Matela combined for 5 three-pointers to boost the hosts' lead to 29-9 after 10 minutes. Another triple by Wes Wilkinson gave Spirou its biggest lead, 46-25. Spirou kept a safe lead, 59-44, late in the third quarter, but Nate Reinking and Sommerville fueled a 0-12 run that brought the guests back to life, 59-56, after 30 minutes. Kelvin Torbert struck twice from downtown in another 0-12 run that Nesbitt capped with free throws with a 71-75 lead with 2 minutes to go. Walsh sank a key triple while Torbert missed free throws and soon committed a turnovers, giving Spirou the chance to win the game. Johnson stepped up with a jumper to win it for Spirou at the buzzer.
