German League, Regular Season, Game 30: April 11-13, 2009
A brilliant effort from Rickey Paulding kept EWE Baskets Oldenburg on pace to clinch first place in the German League after defending champion Alba Berlin lost. Paulding recorded 20 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals to lead Oldenburg to a 96-98 win at Giants Dusseldorf. Je’Kel Foster also scored 20 as Oldenburg won its eighth game in a row and improved its record to 24-5. Meanwhile Dustin Salibery's last second three-pointer lifted New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig to a stunning 65-64 win over Berlin, dropping the champs to 21-7. MEG Gottingen bested ratiopharm Ulm 70-62 behind 18 points and 5 steals from Chris Oliver to climb into a tie for second with Berlin. Telekom Bonn scraped by Giants Nordlingen 65-67 to remain in the race for second place at 20-9. Johannes Strasser scored 13 and Vincent Yarbrough posted 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Bonn. Artland Dragons picked up their fourth straight victory by downing Brose Baskets Bamberg 63-78 on the road. A 1-11 run to open the fourth quarter gave the Dragons the lead for good en route to the win. In other games, EnBW Ludwigsburg defeated Eisbären Bremerhaven 88-82 as Brandon Woudstra scored 18 and the Deutsche Bank Skyliners topped Walter Tigers Tubingen 59-72 as Keith Simmons poured in 25.
Dustin Salibery's last second three-pointer lifted New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig to a stunning 65-64 win over Alba Berlin, dropping the champs to 21-7. Berlin led early and was up 27-36 at halftime, but Braunschweig stormed back and took its first lead at 58-57. Berlin looked in control when Julius Jenkins made it 61-64 from the line with 20 seconds remaining. Jason Cain scored for the hosts and Jenkins was sent to the line again with 11 seconds left, this time making just 1. On the final play, Braunschweig turned to Salisbery who didn’t disappoint, giving his team its 11th win of the season. Kyle Visser paced Braunschweig with 22 points and Andrew Drevo added 14 points and 8 rebounds. Jenkins led Berlin with 16 points and 6 assists, Casey Jacobsen added 12 points and Immanuel McElroy 11. Artland Dragons picked up their fourth straight victory by downing Brose Baskets Bamberg 63-78 on the road. Artland went into the fourth quarter down 53-51, but Darius Hall, Lamont McIntosh and Ronald Ross were the stars of a 1-11 charge as Bamberg was held without a basket for the first five minutes of that period. Ross finished with 22 points to lead the Dragons, Toby Bailey added 15, McIntosh 14 and Chad Prewitt 14. Predrag Suput paced Bamberg with 15 points and John Goldsberry and Elton Brown added 11 each.
