Italian League playoffs, quarterfinals, Game 2: May 20-21, 2009
David Hawkins - Armani Jeans MilanoReigning champion Montepaschi Siena and Armani Jeans Milano both picked up important wins to take 2-0 leads in their respective Italian League quarterfinals series, while Virtus Bologna and Angelico Biella both won at home to even their series at 1-1. Milano edged Bancatercas Teramo in Game 2 at home 83-82 on Wednesday behind David Hawkins's 24 points and 4 assists and will look to be the first team to reach the semis when it travels to Teramo for Game 3 on Friday. Montepaschi Siena bested Scavolini Spar Pesaro 68-77 on Thursday as Ksistof Lavrinovic and Romain Sato each scored 13. The champs will look to close out that series in Siena on Saturday. Angelico Biella protected its home-court with an 82-77 win over Lottomatica Roma. Pietro Aradori scored 21 points off the bench for Biella, who never trailed after halftime. Virtus Bologna built a 16-point first-quarter lead and never looked back en route to a 94081 win over Benetton Basket Treviso that evened the series at 1-1. Sharrod Ford scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Bologna.

Montepaschi Siena bested Scavolini Spar Pesaro 68-77 on Thursday and will look to close out that series at home on Saturday. The hosts held on early and were within 1 early in the second quarter before Rimas Kaukenas and Ksistof Lavrinovic scored 6 points apiece in a 2-17 tear that broke the game open. Henry Domercant added 12 points, Terrell McIntyre scored 10 and Morris Finley and Ben Eze had 9 each for the winners. LeRoy Hurd carried Pesaro with 34 points.

Armani Jeans Milano edged Bancatercas Teramo in Game 2 at home 83-82 to take a 2-0 series lead. Milano took the lead for good with 6 straight points in the final two minutes. Teramo started strong, scoring the game’s first 11 points and later led by 16 midway through the second quarter. A pair of Mike Hall triples sparked a 15-2 charge that gave the hosts their first lead early in the third quarter. The game stayed close from that point and featured five ties and three lead changes in the fourth quarter alone. A Jaycee Carroll triple with three minutes to play put Teramo up 77-80, but David Hawkins tied it with a three on his next shot, Carroll then missed from downtown and Mo Taylor put Milano up 1 from the line. Carroll again tried from behind the arc and missed, Hall scored to make it 83-82 and the hosts held on after that, allowing only a pair of Amoroso Amoroso in the closing seconds. Hawkins led all players with 24 points plus 4 assists, Hall scored 16 and Hollis Price added 13. Carroll paced Teramo with 17 points and Giuseppe Poeta added 16.

Angelico Biella protected its home-court with an 82-77 win over Lottomatica Roma. The game was tied at 36-36, but Biella started the second half with a James Gist triple and would never trail again. Pietro Aradori paced the winners with 21 points off the bench and Luca Garri added 13 points and 7 rebounds. Sani Becirovic scored 16 for Roma, Luigi Datome had 15 and Angelo Gigli 10.

Virtus Bologna built a 16-point first-quarter lead and never looked back en route to a 94081 win over Benetton Basket Treviso that evened the series at 1-1. Sharrod Ford scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Bologna. Benetton's only lead of the game was at 0-2 and it never got closer than 5 points at any point over the last 30 minutes. Dusan Vukcevic added 18 points and Earl Boykins produced 16 points and 8 assists for Virtus. Rado Rancik led Benetton with 16 points, Jon Stefansson added 11 and Ioannis Kalampokis 10.
