The Latvian League starts with three teams - defending champion Barons/LMT, Ventspils and ASK Riga - ready to face each other for the title. Barons/LMT shocked everyone by lifting its first-ever Latvian League trophy last season, in which the team also won the FIBA EuroCup title, and is set to carry on rewriting its own history. Barons/LMT kept the players that led the team to its biggest success, including Demetrius Alexander, Armands Skele, Giedrius Gustas or Kaspars Berzins. The arrival of scoring ace Adrian Henning adds more fire power to the mix. ASK Riga also comes off a strong season, finishing third in the Baltic League. ASK signed star guard Corey Brewer to join an interesting backcourt that also features Gatis Jahovics and Sandis Valters. Raitis Grafs and Ricardo Marsh will be its main references in the paint. Ventspils has as many as eight newcomers, including playmaker Tyrone Blazerton and scoring machine Mareks Jurevicus. VEF Riga, with a very young team led by Evgeni Kolesnikov, and SK Valmiera, featuring Ronnie Clark and Janis Poznaks, are set to fight for a semifinal spot.
