Polish League, Regular Season, Game 22: January 20-21, 2009
In the top game of the week in the Polish League, defending champion Asecco Prokom denied Polpharma Starograd Gdanski 94-79 to overtake the top spot in the standings. Now the champs have the best winning percentage with a 13-4 record, Polpharma is second at 13-5, while Kotwica and Anwil Wloclawek follow with 13 victories and 6 defeats. In Sopot, Prokom ran over Polpharma in the 30-18 first quarter and never looked back en route to the comfortable win. Pat Burke had a big night with 22 points and 14 rebounds for the hosts, Przemyslaw Zamojski notched 19 points, Ronnie Burrell had 15 and David Logan 10 to go with a game-high 5 assists. Erick Barkley netted 23 points for the visitors. Energa Czarni registered a 90-75 win over its neighbor in the middle of the standings, Atlas Stal. Demetric Bennett paced the hosts with 19 points, while four other players scored between 11 and 14 points for Energa. Anwil Wloclawek picked up an 84-101 road victory over PBG Basket as the visitors shot an incredible 15 for 26 from behind the arc. Tommy Adams nailed 6 of his 8 attempts from downtown to finish with 24 points for Anwil and Paul Miller added 23 points of his own. Bank BPS downed Kotwica 91-73 as Tony Weeden scored 21 points and Brandon Wallace added 15 points to go with 8 rebounds for the winners. In the only Tuesday game, Sportino withstood a fourth quarter surge to top PGE Turow Zgorzelec 82-78 as David Gomez led five scorers in double figures with 18 points for the winners. Damir Miljkovic paced the visitors with an impressive 32 points.
