Portuguese League Quarterfinals, Game 3: May 9, 2009
CAB Madeira, Academica and Ovarense Dolce Vita swept their respective best-of-five quarterfinal series to make it to the Portuguese League semifinals. CAB left no doubt about it power by overwhelming VSC 45-87 on the road in Game 3 on Saturday. Bobby Madison paced the winners with 28 points on 6-for-10 three-pointers. Lance Soderberg added 14 for CAB, that led 29-36 at halftime but boosted its margin to 37-59 after 30 minutes to seal the outcome. Academica downed Vagos NorbainLusavouga 86-70 at home also in Game 3 to win the series 3-0. Fernando Sousa led the winners with 23 points. Manuel Johnson added 21 and 14 rebounds while Karlton Mims had 19 points for Academica, that broke the game open midway through the fourth quarter. Ovarense beat Barreirense/Unilogos 66-71 behind 24 points from John Waller and 16 from Rui Mota. Ovarense trailed 55-53 after 30 minutes but allowed just 11 points in the fourth quarter to advance to the semifinals. Sport Lisboa Benfica bounced back from its first loss this season by beating Porto Ferpinta 64-70 in Game 3 on Saturday. Benfica leads the series 2-1. Seth Doliboa led the winners with 28 points while Sergio Ramos added 24 for Benfica, that kept full control of the game in the second half. Porto hosts Game 4 tomorrow.
