Russian League, Regular Season, Game 10: January 3, 2009
Euroleague champion CSKA Moscow overmatched CSK VVS-Samara 85-54 to stay unbeaten and atop the Russian League with a perfect 9-0 record. Dynamo Moscow and BC Khimki continue to share the second place as well as an 8-2 record, while UNICS Kazan (6-3) broke the fourth-place tie by downing rival Spartak St.Petersburg (5-4). Viktor Khryapa led a balanced CSKA offence with 15 points and 7 rebounds, while big men Sasha Kaun and Erazem Lorbek registered 12 points each. Team captain Matjaz Smodis and Ramunas Siskauskas notched 11 points apiece and Zoran Planinic added 10 points for CSKA. In another Moscow game, Dynamo needed a 28-17 fourth quarter to outlast Universitet-Jugra 91-84 as Travis Hansen broke through with one of the best offensive performances of the Russian season. The swingman scored 38 points, dished 5 assists and recorded 6 steals. Sergey Monya and Darius Lavrinovic netted 13 points apiece and Bostjan Nachbar added 11 points for the hosts. Guard Lionel Chalmers had another great game for Jugra with 28 points and 6 assists. Khimki handled Ural Great 108-80 as Carlos Delfino came off the bench to lead a balanced team effort with 18 points for the winners. Mike Wilkinson posted 16 points, while Vitaly Fridzon, Kelly McCarty and Timofey Mozgov scored 14 points each and Anton Ponkrashov chipped in 11. Darius Washington had 19 points and 5 assists for Ural Great. In Kazan, Marko Popovic led UNICS with 19 points in 20 minutes as the local team downed Spartak St. Petersburg 76-62. Center Kresimir Loncar collected 17 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Vladimir Veremeenko added 16 points for UNICS. Veteran Zakhar Pashutin and Nikita Kurbanov notched 12 points apiece for Spartak. Lokomotiv-Rostov picked up an 80-88 road victory over Triumph Lyubertsy as Maksim Sheleketo led four scorers in double digits with 17 points for Lokomotiv.
