Serbian Radivoj Korac Cup semifinals: February 20, 2009
Bitter Belgrade rivals Partizan and Crvena Zvezda will clash on Saturday with the Serbian Radivoj Korac Cup at stake after both teams won their respective semifinals on Friday. It will be the third time they meet in the cup final, with each team having won once. Partizan topped Hemofarm 83-67 thanks to a great defensive effort that limited Hemofarm to 18 points in the middle two periods, while Novica Velckovic netted 20 points. Crvena Zvezda ousted FMP 80-85 thanks to a well-balanced effort and clutch free-throw shooting from Andre Owens in the closing seconds. In the first game, Hemofarm jumped out to an early lead, using a 9-0 run to take a 13-point advantage before settling on a 16-25 lead after 10 minutes. However Partizan came right back through improved defensive play and took a 39-36 halftime lead on the strength of a Milenko Tepic triple. After the break, Partizan’s defense hit a new level as it limited Hemofarm to 7 points while pulling away. Uros Tripkovic put Partizan up 20 from downtown early in the fourth quarter and Hemofarm was unable to mount a serious comeback after that. Tepic added 13 and Petar Bozic and Zarko Rakocevic netted 11 each. Milivoje Bozovic recorded 20 points for Hemofarm in the loss, Miljan Pavkovic added 17 and Stefan Markovic 12. In the nightcap, Crvena Zvezda took an early lead, but FMP was never far behind and got within 80-82 with 13 seconds remaining. However Crvena Zvezda made the shots it needed to seal the win. Owens paced Crvena Zvezda with 16 points, Marko Keselj added 13 and Tadija Dragicevic and Boris Bakic netted 12 apiece. Dragan Labovic paced FMP with 18.
