Union Olimpija is once again the Slovenian Spar Cup champion! Olimpija won its 15th Slovenian Cup title since the competition was created in 1992 by thrashing Elektra Esotech 75-58 in the title game in Lasko on Sunday. Vladimir Golubovic and Frank Robinson led the winners each with 18 points. Jasmin Hukic added 16 while Jaka Klobucar had 11 for Olimpija. Nikola Ivanovic had 21 points for Elektra while Dejan Cup added 19. Olimpija struggled to score in the opening minutes, while Cup and Luka Sjekloca allowed Elektra to get a 5-8 edge. Free throws by Hukic and a wild dunk by Golubovic got Olimpija going. Hukic and Robinson buried consecutive three-pointers for a 15-11 Olimpija lead after 10 minutes. Hukic nailed another three-pointer early in the second quarter while Miha Zupan coped him soon after that to break the game open. Robinson capped with a 14-2 run with a layup, good for a 26-13 Olimpija margin. Ivanovic tried to change things for Elektra but Golubovic and an outstanding Robinson kept pacing Olimpija for a 14-point margin, 41-27, at halftime. Ivanovic and Cup tried to ignite Elektra's comeback after the break, as free throws by Sjekloca made it a six-point game, 43-37. Olimpija did not panic, however, as Golubovic scored twice around the basket while Klobucar added 5-for-6 free throws to restore a 54-41 margin after three quarters. Elektra needed a miracle comeback to get back in the game through an outstanding Ivanovic. Golubovic kept dominating the boards while Hukic sealed the outcome with a three-pointer and a layup, 62-48. Everything was said and done already, as Olimpija cruised to a well-deserved win that came with another domestic cup title!
