Turkish League, Regular Season, Game 19: February 14-15, 2009
Efes Pilsen extended its winning streak to 18 games by disappointing Besiktas Cola Turka 82-94 at Akatlar Cola Turka Arena to remain on top of the Turkish League standings. Former Besiktas stars Preston Shumpert and Sinan Guler paired to destroy their previous team with a total of 25 points as Efes improved to 18-1 and remained two wins ahead of second place Galatasaray Cafe Crown. In fact little changed in the top part of the table as the first four teams in the standings all won. Galatasaray easily beat Mutlu Aku Selcuk University of Konya 66-88 in Konya to remain in second place at 16-3. Dejan Milojevic scored 19 and grabbed 12 boards and Huseyin Besok had 16 points plus 11 rebounds for the victors. Reigning champion Fenerbahce Ulker and Turk Telekom are tied for third. Fenerbahce came back from 13 points behind at the end of the third period to beat Oyak Renault 77-70. Mirsad Turkcan played a key role by scoring 9 of his 15 points in the last period. Turk Telekom beat Kepez Belediye of Antalya 102-90 as Bekir Yarangume scored a season-high 29 points. In other games, Maarty Leunen posted 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Darussafaka Cooper Tires past Casa TED A. Kolejliler 69-53, Erdemir outlasted Banvit on the road 96-105 as Antwain Barbour shined with 28 points, Mersin Buyuksehir Belediyesi edged Aliaga Petkim 76-78 behind 25 points from Chris Lofton and Antalya Bsb. topped Pinar Karsiyaka 82-79.

Former Besiktas stars Preston Shumpert and Sinan Guler paired to destroy their previous team with a total of 25 points, while Michalis Kakiouzis led his team with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Efes used a 0-9 start fueled by Bootsy Thornton, but Besiktas responded with a 10-0 run to balance the game by the end of the first quarter, 25-26. Efes made another impressive move into the second period with 2-14 surge speared by Kakiouzis and Shumpert as it raced to a 34-54 halftime lead. Besiktas strengthened its defense in the third quarter for five minutes and reduced the difference to 10 points, but Efes recovered its game soon to move into the last period ahead 64-75. Besiktas made another try with Jimmy Baxter and Mire Chatman at the beginning and got as close as 69-75, however the visitors responded with Shumpert, Guler and Ender Arslan to remain strong and win the game 82-94. All 11 players involved scored for Efes. Shumpert finished with 14, Charles Smith had 12 and Guler 11. Baxter finished with 24 points, Chatman had 17 points plus 6 assists and Ray Wesson added 15 for Besiktas.
Fenerbahce Ulker came back from 13 points behind at the end of the third period (48-61) to beat Oyak Renault 77-70 with a thunderous 29-9 last quarter. The win avenged a loss in Bursa in the first half of the season. Mirsad Turkcan played the key role by scoring 9 of his 15 points in the last period while Oguz Savas had 11 points and 6 rebounds and Gordan Giricek added 10 points and 6 assists. Alex Gordon scored 24 points and grabbed 5 rebounds and Reshawn Jones added 19 points for Renault.
Galatasaray Cafe Crown easily beat Mutlu Aku Selcuk University of Konya 66-88 in Konya to remain in second place at 16-3. Despite trailing 25-14 after 10 minutes, Galatasaray woke up to take a 38-39 lead by halftime. And a 9-32 third period was too much for Mutlu Aku as Galatasaray snatched the win with 66-88 final score. Dejan Milojevic scored 19 and grabbed 12 boards, Huseyin Besok had 16 points plus 11 rebounds, Murat Kaya scored 14 points and Rashid Atkins added 12 for Galatasaray. Ufuk Kacar and Brian Ibekwe both scored 14 for Mutlu Aku Selcuk University.
Turk Telekom kept its share of third place by beating Kepez Belediye of Antalya 102-90 to capture its 14th win of the season. The hosts held a slim lead at the end of the high-scoring opening period, 35-32. Bekir Yarangume and Serkan Erdogan led Telekom to a 61-56 halftime edge. Kepez stayed close and ebterd the fourth period down just 4, but Telekom held the visitors to 10 fourth-quarter points to seal the win. Yarangume scored a season-high 29 points, Erdogan had 20, Tutku Acik 11 and Erwin Dudley added 10 for Telekom. Gerald Fitch scored 27 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, dished 5 assists and swiped 4 steals and Robert Traylor scored 19 points for Kepez.
