Ukrainian League, Regular Season, Game 19: February 7, 2009
Nothing changed atop the Ukrainian League standings over the weekend as BC Kyiv and champion Azovmash Mariupol were both victorious to stay in first and second palce, respectively. But they had to go through tough tests on Saturday. In Donetsk, Kyiv had to work hard to edge local BC Donetsk 80-81 behind 7 points from each Kenan Bajramovic and Clay Tucker in the final 10 minutes. Tucker scored 16 points and pulled down 7 rebounds, Scoonie Penn had 13 points and 4 assists, and Bajramovic and Brent Wright finished with 12 points apiece for the winners. Artur Drozdov added 11 points and Manuchar Markoishvili chipped in with 10 for Kyiv, which improved to 17-2. Chris Owens notched 21 points and P.J. Tucker added 20 for Donetsk. Azovmash won a tough battle by topping BC Khimik 80-85 to improve to 16-3. Simonas Serapinas and Khalid El Amin paced the champs with a combined 16 points in the fourth quarter. Serapinas was the visitors' leading scorer with 25 points, while El Amin netted 21 points and dished a game-high 7 assists and Goran Cakic added 11 points. Andriy Agafonov and Kelly Wykeen impressed with a combined 45 points for Khimik. The hosts were victorious in the two other games. BC Poltava beat MBC Mykolaiv 91-75 as Ricky Clemons and Saulius Kazevicius had 15 points each and four other scorers reached double digits for the hosts, while BC-93 Pulsar downed Sumykhimprom 89-63 behind 27 points from Pavel Ulyanko.
