Baltic League final four, Final: April 24, 2010
Zalgiris Kaunas has taken back the Baltic League title by outdueling rival Lietuvos Rytas 66-73 on Saturday with some spectacular second-half defense. Zalgiris had trailed by 46-32 at the half, but allowed L. Rytas only 20 points after that. That disappointed most of the 10,000 fans at Siemens Arena in Vilnius, the home court of L. Rytas, which was trying to defend its title. Vetaran scorer Marcus Brown led Zalgiris with 22 points, to which Tadas Klimavicius and Dainius Salenga added 17 and 11, respectively. Zalgiris owned the backboards with a 32-42 rebounding advantage that included 8 each from Klimavicius and Travis Watson. L. Rytas got 20 points from Martynas ecevicius, 14 from Kenan Bajramovic and 13 from Steponas Babrauskas, but suffered from bad long-distance shooting, just 4 for 19 (or 21%) from three-point territory. L. Rytas had broken open an 18-14 game after one quarter to lead by a whopping 46-32 at the half. Led By Brown, Zalgiris scored the first 11 points after the break. Triples from Klimavicius and Aleksandar Capin forged a new lead for Zalgiris, although L. Rytas took it back, 58-57 after three quarters. Zalgiris started the final quarter with a 3-9 run before Klimavicius put the game - and the trophy - away with 5 points late. L. Rytas has won the Baltic League trophy three times, Zalgiris twice now. In Saturday's game for third place, Siauliai beat Ventspils 84-83.

Baltic League, Season 2009-10
The 2009-10 Baltic League promises to be as competitive as ever and even though Zalgiris and Lietuvos Rytas remain the top candidates to reach the final, teams like VEF Riga, Siauliai, Kalev/Cramo and Ventspils will try to produce an upset this season. Zalgiris brought back Marcus Brown as its main scoring reference, and landed Mirza Begic and Travis Watson on its frontline. Mantas Kalnietis, Tadas Klimavicius and Dainius Salenga round out an interesting team. Defending champion L. Rytas completely renovated its roster with new arrivals like Aron Baynes, Bojan Popovic and Dejan Borovnjak. Returnees Arturas Jomantas, Steponas Babrauskas and Donatas Zavackas will have extended roles this season. Siauliai looks stronger than ever with Matt Kingsley, Brandon Brown and Derrick Low ready for the big challenge. Kalev trusts Rait Keerles and Gregor Arbet to lead the team this season. Meanwhile, coach Agris Galvanovskis relies on Markes Jurevicus and Dairis Bertrans to push Ventspils toward bigger goals. Rolands Freimanis and Alex Renfroe are set to lead VEF Riga. The Baltic League also hosts a start-of-season event, the BBL Cup, featuring L. Rytas, Zalgiris, Kalev and Ventspils. The regular season features all the teams playing in a round-robin format. The two best teams after this phase advance to the final four while four other teams will battle for the remaining spots in the playoffs.
