Cibona celebrates - Cibona_24470Cibona Zagreb won its 15th Croatian League championship on Thursday by beating KK Zadar 95-73 to complete a comeback from a 0-2 deficit to win the best-of-five series 3-2. Bojan Bogdanovic scored 21 points and Marko Tomas added 18 for the newly crowned champs, who made a half of their 28 triples in the game. Leon Radosevic and Vedran Vukusic highlighted the run with 6 points each. Hrvoje Peric and Miro Bilan rallied Zadar back from 14 down to within 7 before a Rok Stipcevic triple capped the first half at 51-43. Another Stipcevic three brought the visitors within 53-49 early in the third quarter, but Cibona held Zadar to just two baskets the rest of the period as it stormed to a 20-point advantage with 10 minutes to play, effectively wrapping up the win and the league title with time to spare. Croatian League, Season 2009-10
The Croatian League returns with a similar look to recent seasons and the same teams expected to challenge for glory. Defending champion Cibona, finalist Zadar and cup runner-up Zagreb are joined by Cedevita as Croatia’s four Adriatic League representatives. That foursome will join the league for the second phase after the Adriatic League season. Until then, 10 teams will play an 18-game regular season with the top four advancing to a second phase with the Adriatic League sides. Cibona remains the team to beat with Antonio Graves, Jamont Gordon and Marko Tomas arriving to play alongside Luksa Andric, Marin Rozic and Vedran Vukusic. Zadar promises to be strong after keeping its core from last year of Rok Stipcevic, Hrvoje Peric, Vladimer Boisa and Tomislav Ruzic and adding Micah Downs and Trent Plaisted. Zagreb will be led by Ante Tomic, who returns with Krunoslav Simon, Andre Stimac and newcomer Pankracije Barac. Meanwhile Cedevita will have a new look after adding Damjan Rudez, Andrija Zizic, Jermaine Anderson, Barisa Krasic and Ivan Opacak among others. Split, with Mario Delas, Zoran Vrkic and Marko Batina, starts as the favorite to finish atop the first stage, though Svjetlost and Trogir will be waiting in the wings.
