Czech League, Regular Season Game 44: April 16-20, 2010
The Czech League regular season came to an end on Tuesday night with a familiar team atop the standings, though by a much closer margin than ever before. Defending champion CEZ Basketball Nymburk overcame third placed BK Prostejov 88-72 to improve to 40-4, giving it one victory more than regular season runner-up Mlekarna Miltra Novy Jicín. Ron Lewis recorded 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Phil Ricci also scored 18 to lead Nymburk in the makeup game. Prostejov led by 10 midway through the second quarter, but Nymburk used a 16-2 third-quarter run to take over. Mike Lenzly added 17 points and Arthur Lee scored 13 for the winners. Kyle Landry led Prostejov with 13. Nymburk needed to win to take first place after losing to Novy Jicín 63-54 over the weekend. Levell Sanders and Corey Muirhead scored 19 points apiece to lead Novy Jicín in that one. Muirhead scored 8 and Sanders 5 in a 15-2 run that bridged the third and fourth quarters as the hosts pulled away for the win. Lee scored 20 and Ricci 10 for Nymburk. In other games, BK Breda & Weinstein Opava beat Basketball Brno 70-64 led by Marek Stec’s 18 points, NH Ostrava edged BC Kolín 88-87 thanks to 19 points from Dwight Burke, Zbynek Pospisil led six BK Synthesia Pardubice scorers in double figures with 16 points in a 91-86 win over BK Prostejov, USK Praha downed Karma Basket Podebrady 69-88 as Myles McKay netted 20 and BK Decín routed Sokol Vysehrad 56-107.
