French League, Game 16: January 22-23, 2010
Le Mans leads the French League standings with a 14-2 record. Cholet Basket is right behind at 13-3 and Gravelines ranks third at 11-5. In the biggest game in this round, Le Mans edged Orleans 70-67 at home on Saturday. JP Batista led the winners with 17 points. Dee Spencer added 14 while Antoine Diot had 10 for Le Mans. Ryvon Covile led Orleans with 16 points. Tony Dobbins added 15, Aldo Curti had 12 while Cedrick Banks and Ludovic Vaty each got 10 for the guests, that led 14-24 after 10 minutes. Le Mans rallied in the second quarter and it was a balanced game from then on. Diot and Batiste helped Le Mans to seal the outcome, 69-63, with 2 minutes left. Cholet registered a 87-86 road loss against Hyeres-Toulon. Pierre Pierce paced the winners with 22 points. Sammy Mejia led Cholet with 20 points, Antywane Robinson added 15, Mickael Gelabale had 13 while Kevin Seraphin contributed 10. It all came down to the final second, as Randal Falker gave Cholet a 84-86 lead but Derrick Obasohan beat the buzzer with a big triple to win it for Toulon. Sluc Nancy thrashed Strasbourg 95-77 behind 28 points on 8-of-11 triples by Jeff Greer, Marcus Slaughter added 18 and 19 rebounds, Ricardo Greer had 14 points, Stephen Brun 12 and Steed Tchicamboud 11. Nancy trailed 39-47 at halftime but did not find much trouble to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer. Asvel moved up to 7-9 by overwhelming Chorale Roanne 88-57 at home on Saturday. Rawle Marshall led the winners with 17 points. Ben Dewar added 16, Ali Traore had 15, Bobby Dixon 12 and Mindaugas Lukauskis 10 in an easy home win for Asvel, that led 55-29 at halftime and never looked back. In other games, Gravelines edged Chalon 75-82, Paris beat Poitiers 80-71, Le Havre thrashed Dijon 81-54 while Vichy topped Rouen 77-80 on a buzzer-beating triple by David Melody.
