French League, Game 29: Apr. 30 - May 1 2010
Cholet Basket stayed atop the French League standings with a 22-7 record by rallying to beat Le Havre 65-71 on the road on Saturday. Sammy Mejia led the winners with 19 points, Mickael Gelabale added 15, John Linehan had 14 while Randal Falker got 10 for Cholet, that trailed 60-51 with 6 minutes left. Mejia had 7 points in a 3-17 run that Linehan capped with a triple to seal the outcome, 63-68, with a minute left. Le Mans is second at 106-57 by overwhelming Dijon 106-57 at home also on Saturday. Marc Salyers paced the winners with 21 points. Zack Wright added 16, Dee Spencer had 15 while JP Batista got 13 for Le Mans, that led 52-26 at halftime and never looked back. Sluc Nancy dropped to 18-11 due to a 72-87 home loss against Gravelines on Friday. JK Edwards led the winners with 20 points. Marcus Slaughter led Nancy with 15 points. Jeff Greer added 14, his brother Ricardo had 13 while Steed Tchicamboud got 12 for Nancy, that trailed 61-62 late in the third quarter. A mamooth 1-20 run allowed Gravelines to seal the outcome. Orleans dropped to 17-12 due to a 84-83 road loss against Paris-Levallois. Daniel Vasallo led Paris with 29 points. Cedrick Banks had 18 points for Orleans, Laurent Sciarra and Ryvon Covile each added 12 while Adrien Moerman got 10 for the guests. A late three-pointer by Rodney Elliott allowed Paris to clinch a playoff spot. Asvel improved to 13-16 by edging Vichy 86-79 at home on Saturday. Ali Traore led the winners with 22 points. Rawle Marshall got 15, Mindaugas Lukauskis added 13, Aymeric Jeanneau had 12 while Kristjan Kangur contributed 11 for Asvel, that led 66-50 after 30 minutes and only allowed Vichy to rally once the outcome was clear. In other games, Rouen thrashed Hyeres-Toulon 88-67 while Poitiers defeated Strasbourg 93-82. Roanne visits Chalon on Friday.
